Victoria Waterfall

My Victoria Falls Guide is going to give you an complete insight of things to know before visiting Vic Falls.

On my second safari in Africa “From Windhoek Namibia to Livingston Zambia” I stopped at the mighty Victoria Waterfall in Zimbabwe. This impressive fall is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world and one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Africa. Are you planning to visit Vic Falls too? Here I will answer the most important questions for your trip to Victoria Falls.

Where is Victoria Falls located?

The mighty Victoria Falls are located in Southern Africa on the Zambezi River, This river is Africa´s fourth largest river after Nile, Congo and Niger. The river is also defining the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. That´s why you can see the waterfalls from both countries.

Is Victoria Falls the largest Waterfall in the World?

There are 3 ways of how to measure a waterfall: by volume, by width and by height. If you combine these factors there are 3 large waterfalls in the world: Niagara Falls, Iguacu Falls and Victoria Falls.

Victoria Falls Entrance Fee

The massive Victoria Falls can be seen from the Zimbabwean and from the Zambian side. Entrance fee for Victoria Falls National Park on the Zimbabwean side is $30 whereas the entrance fee from the Zambian side is just $10.

Victoria Falls Zimbabwe versus Victoria Falls Zambia

Most people say the Victoria Falls are more impressive from the Zimbabwean side as you have 15 look outs whereas there is only one main spot from the Zambian side. Personally, I think so too.

Best time to visit Victoria Falls

I went to Victoria Waterfalls in Januar which is considered to be the rainy season. The Falls are a spectacular experience at High Water. However, the spray makes it more difficult to see and photograph the waterfall. A good time to visit Victoria Waterfall is from February to May. This is directly after the rainy season. If you want to combine your visit with a safari then you should come from June to August.

I woudn´t recommend visiting Victoria Waterfall October to November. Especially during a drought you barely have water and there is no waterfall from the Zambian side. Each time of the year has its advantages and disadvantages.

[…] NAMBOTSZIMZAM – No, this is not a foreign language, nor is this the name of a traditional African dish. It is, however, the travel itinerary of my second safari in Africa. I have been in Cape Town for quite some time already and my plan was to see as much as possible of Africa. I always wanted to visit Namibia again. I’ve been there already but still haven’t seen all there is to see. Besides Namibia, I wanted to also cross Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia off my bucket list. I was so keen on visiting Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and the mighty Victoria Falls. […]
