A Day Trip to Lake Reschen
A must do when you are on holidays in South Tyrol is a trip to one of the various lakes. Besides Lake Garda, Lake Reschen is a really popular one as well. It is close to the border of Switzerland and Austria, about 90 minutes away from Meran. What I found makes this lake really special are the crystal clear water and the steeple sticking out in the middle of it. I have seen something like this before at Störmthaler See in Leipzig, Germany; it’s sort of unreal really but really impressive to see.
The explanation:
The reason of why there is a steeple visible is quite easy. For the production of electricity two villages, Grain and Reschen, were flooded in 1950 and the inhabitants were forced to resettle somewhere else. The only reminder of the village Grain, which was destroyed completely, is the church’s steeple. It is therefore understandable that back in the days it was a tragedy for the people that lived there. Now a days, Lake Reschen is a popular holiday destination. It is always full of people longing to see the steeple.

My advice:
If you want to escape the tourists, go and look for the area where they offer water sports. Renting a kayak, taking a kite surf lesson or taking a dip in the crystal clear water are amazing ways of relaxation.
